Creating a Slow Home.

A slow home.

A place that is a sanctuary in the wold and a place you love to be in.

Where you don’t feel the need to rush and your heart slows down.

To be honest right now, with 2 little kids, it feels like we’re often in maintenance mode just keeping up with the last thing that got put somewhere. 😁

However, we are really looking forward to putting down our roots in Nelson, New Zealand next year and curating a place that is life-giving.

A house is more than a place to sleep, eat and recharge to go again.

The idea of a slow home also adds another level. It’s one that actively encourages you to slow down by the way it’s designed, the decor and furniture.

Inviting you to enjoy the simple things and savour them. Having less, but making more of what you do have.

So how do we plan to go about it?

We’ll start with a first question:

“What is the primary purpose of this room?”

While we tend to focus on aesthetics overall this can be an amazing question to think about how you want to live in each room and experience it.

What outcome do we want it to foster?

Here are some thoughts for me:

  • Lounge - Cosy & Conversation.

  • Bedroom - Relaxation & Intimacy.

  • Kitchen - Community & Creation.

Once a room has an ultimate aim then you can ask the next question.

“Does everything in this room add towards that purpose?”

If not then it goes.

Only the things that fulfil the purpose for the room get to stay.

This would be a far cry from how we currently have things set up. We ask things like “Where should we store this?” 😂

Looking forward to working things out room by room.
